INCLUSIVE EDUCATION SUPPORT

Summer Learning supports students with diverse abilities (please read carefully with attention to the deadlines):

All students may register for Summer Learning. Students who have an Inclusive Education Plan (IEP) with a designation (A-H) may be considered for additional support through a district needs assessment and planning process. Check your child's current IEP for their current category.

Based on individual student needs, available documentation, and district review, supports may include:

Provided:
  • A Summer Learning Plan (SLP) based on the current IEP
  • In-class accommodations, as needed
  • Access to an on-site learning support teacher, as needed
May include (based on assessed need and available staffing):
  • Education Assistant (EA) support
Important:
  • Not all students who receive EA support during the school year will receive EA support in Summer Learning
  • Supports are determined through a district process and may differ from those provided during the regular school year
  • Summer Learning is a supplemental program, and supports are provided within available timelines and resources
  • EA staffing is allotted to summer schools in accordance with SD43 procedure
Commitment to equity and access
The district is committed to meaningful access and inclusive opportunities for all learners. Support decisions are made through a collaborative, student-focused process that considers individual needs alongside program structure, timelines, and available resources.

Timeline

Register your child(ren) for the lottery. If your child successfully secures a seat in the lottery we will  reach out to schools for more information.

April/May
The Summer Learning department requests copy of the student's IEP from the home school, to learn about student's strengths, needs, and areas of support.  Summer Learning staff write a Summer Learning Plan (SLP) for the student.

Late May
The school district determines the amount/type of EA support, if needed, through a detailed needs assessment process.

Early/Mid June
